Honey Quote of the Day:

“Love is missing someone whenever you’re apart, but somehow feeling warm inside because you’re close in heart.”

Kluang – the place I grew up and brought me a lot of memories. This special and unique town is located at the centre of Johor, with nice people, good food and simple life.
Although it’s not a very city place, this town has been getting more developed since few years back.

Anyway, in this blog, I would like to introduce the “must-go-eating” place that I always recommend those food lovers to go when you are at Kluang!

1. All time favorite Ramly Burger – Frendy’s Burger

Address:33, Jln Tembikai, 86000 Kluang, Johor(哈芝马南区)
Time:5pm-4am

The best burger in Kluang and most of my friends will never forget the unique and delicious taste, especially for those who are from Singapore or overseas.

This is the picture which i took when my friends and I were passing by Kluang from Mersing to Singapore after the diving trip.

2. Chua Seng Coffee Shop 泉成茶餐室

Address:33, Jln Tembikai, 86000 Kluang, Johor(哈芝马南区)
Time:6am-4pm

This coffee shop is our ‘old signage 老招牌’, they are famous with their traditional coffee, tea and the kaya toast. Although most of the people will think that Kluang is famous with the ‘Railway Station’ coffee and toast, Chua Seng is still my vote!

It’s always full every morning , especially Sunday is even more crowded!

The famous coffee and tea, with the square toast and wholemeal bread!

My parents all time favorite, steamed wholemeal square toast, with more kaya! Oh ya, their homemade kaya is awesome and you can really taste the different!

The half boiled egg – again my parents ‘must-order-food’ and the Kampung Egg is always their best choice!

20120410-222225.jpg

Although this is not the most famous curry noodle in Kluang, It’s still up to the standard.

If you are too hungry and need something to fill your stomach while waiting for the order, they have the packet Nasi Lemak, Mee Siam and Mee Goreng too. 🙂

3. Uncle Frog 小青蛙

Address:9, Jln Langsat, 86000 Kluang, Johor
Time:11am-11pm

This is one of my ‘yamcha’ place with my friends during school time. It was located at Kluang Baru previously and shifted to town 2 years or 3 years ago.

Their signature Uncle Frog Ice Kacang 雪糕八宝冰, my all time favorite. 🙂

The other Signature food, Crispy Tofu 脆皮豆腐, it tastes like the Seafood Tofu but it’s really delicious. This is also their home recipe too .

They do have other food items like hot and cold dessert, snack, porridge, rice and noodle. But these 2 are always my favourite. 🙂

4. Ah Cheng Bistro 新联成美食中心

Address:5, Jalan Mohd Salim, Taman Sri Mernanti, 86000 Kluang, Johor (at Lian Seng Garden near Chua Seng coffee shop)
Time:8am-12am

It’s actually a hawker centre near Kluang Mall. I always come here for their bean curd and peanut dumpling, it’s my mum’s favorite too!

The bean curd 豆腐花 is very very smooth and not really sweet, it is always a good and healthy choice for supper.

I had this peanut dumpling 花生汤圆 since I was in secondary school. The filling is not very sweet and the thickness of the skin is just nice, especially when you drink together with the ginger soup, it’s just simply awesome!

5. Tong Huat Confectionery 东发豆沙饼

Address:28 & 30, Jalan Cantik,, 86000 Kluang, Johor
Time:9am-6pm

One of our Kluang Specialty – 东发豆沙饼, you can also call it ‘green bean biscuit’. The best souvenir that you must buy when you visit this unique small town. Personally I prefer the salted flavor instead of the sweet one. They were also being featured by MediaCorp before in Channel 8.

I had this since I was very young and it’s one of my most recommended food in Kluang. All the biscuits are being baked freshly everyday. I prefer the salted flavor 咸豆沙饼 more, especially when it’s still warm. The skin is very crispy and the filling is so fine until it melted in the mouth…yum yum

Actually there are still a lot of good eating places at Kluang which I can’t put it in this blog, will leave it to part II next time, hehe… However, these are the places that I always ‘support’ when I go back Kluang. It is not only the food by itself, but it’s the real taste that will remind me of my childhood time which I will never forget…
